Nezu Museum Garden, Tokyo

Tokyo can be overwhelming at the best of times. In search of a little calm, I headed to the exquisite Nezu museum to discover a true oasis in the city. The original garden, designed in the shinzan-yūkoku - ‘deep mountains and mysterious valleys’ style, included rustic buildings and a teahouse. Much of the site was burned during the bombing of Tokyo in World War II but has been lovingly restored to provide a calming antidote to the city beyond. It is a beautiful extension to exploring the stunning pre-modern Japanese and East Asian artworks within the museum itself. I’d recommend the yuzu cordial in the garden cafe!
