Texture & Wood: Sculptural Workshop with Henry Neville Wood
Join Henry at Kindred House for an exploration into creating a variety of different textural effects and surface finishes on your own mini wooden sculpture. Using ready-cut wooden forms, you will experiment with creating different textures using Japanese carving gauges, before assembling your own sculptural piece to take away with you.
To learn the basics you will begin with a big stretch, before learning how to safely handle your tools. You will be given a brief introduction to using Japanese gauges and how to ‘read’ the wood grain, after which you will then choose a few forms and set about playfully and mindfully applying a range of textures to them.
You will also experiment with ebonising wood (the process of turning a piece black) by making your own ebonising solution and applying it to all or part of your sculptural form.
All tools and materials will be provided and no prior knowledge or experience is necessary.
Refreshments and a simple soup lunch will also be provided on the day.

Always with the taste for adventure Henry has carved on tiny Swedish Islands on Bulgarian mountains and in Australian barns. He now calls London home, where he is lucky enough to carve next to the Heath.
