Shibori Indigo Dyeing Workshop with Yi Crafts

£95.00

Join Yi Crafts at Kindred House to spend the day creating your own natual indigo-dyed shibori tablecloth or wall hanging.

Bai stitch resist tie-dye, known as 'ZhaRan' in Chinese and 'Shibori' in Japanese is a traditional craft of the Bai ethnic minority group in Yunnan, southern China. This craft has existed for over 1000 years and is still practiced today.

In this workshop, you will hear all about the history and cultural background of this unique dyeing process, as well as learn and practice four different traditional stitch resist tie-dye techniques.

You will then create your own design based on these learnt techniques and apply it to a provided organic cotton tablecloth.

You will then finish your creation by dyeing your cloth in a natural indigo dye vat.

The weekend is suitable for all skill levels and the project is designed to be achievable for all.

All materials for the workshop, refreshments and a simple vegetarian lunch will be provided on the day.
